Bank account application

You choose the bank; we prepare the file, have the company stamp made, sign the application under your power of attorney and answer the bank's follow-up questions with you. The bank makes the final decision after its own compliance review.

Who needs it

  • Newly formed Turkish companies with shareholders in mainland China or Hong Kong
  • Companies held through a Hong Kong or mainland holding company, where the bank must trace ownership up to individuals
  • Limited companies that must pay in their capital within 24 months of registration
  • Existing companies that need an account with an additional bank

What we do

  • Review of your company and shareholder documents against the bank's document list
  • An ownership chart that traces the chain from the Turkish company to the individual beneficial owners
  • A short company profile for the bank: activity, expected transactions, main countries and source of funds
  • Having the company stamp (kaşe) made, which is stamped on the bank documents
  • Contact with the corporate branch of the bank you choose, and signing of the application documents under your power of attorney to start the process
  • Coordination of sworn translations and notarisation where the bank requires them
  • Answers to the bank's follow-up questions, with you, until the bank decides

The bank decides; our job is a clear file

Turkish banks must identify every customer and its beneficial owners under the anti-money-laundering rules, and each bank adds its own internal compliance policy on top. For a foreign-owned company, that review is usually thorough. Banks often want to see the authorised signatory in person, ask where the capital comes from and look closely at foreign holding structures. A bank can decline even after the company is registered.

There is no legal deadline for a bank to decide. What we can influence is the file: complete documents, a clear ownership chart and direct answers. That is what this service covers: you choose the bank, and we prepare the file, sign the application documents under your power of attorney and stay with the process until the bank decides. For China-headquartered companies we recommend ICBC Turkey (ICBC Turkey Bank A.Ş.).

What banks look at in a foreign-owned company

  • Who owns and controls it. If the shareholder is a Hong Kong or mainland holding company, the bank follows the chain up to the individuals at the top. A one-page chart with percentages can save a round of questions.
  • Where the money comes from. The first transfers usually come from the parent company or the founders. Have the documents that show the origin of those funds ready.
  • What the company will do. Customers, suppliers, countries and expected volumes. A short profile can answer many of the usual follow-up questions in advance.
  • Who signs. The signatory’s passport and authority must match the trade registry records.

Official documents from mainland China (since 7 November 2023) and Hong Kong can carry an apostille instead of consular legalisation. In Türkiye they are then sworn-translated and notarised.

How the account fits with company formation

The account plays a different role depending on the company type. A joint-stock company (A.Ş.) needs a capital account before registration. A limited company (Ltd. Şti.) has no such requirement: it can open its account after registration and pays its capital within 24 months. Both need a Turkish tax number for each foreign shareholder first: see tax number (ITIN) for foreign partners and company formation.

If your company is formed under a power of attorney, keep in mind that the bank decides separately how it identifies the signatory. A power of attorney that was enough for the trade registry may not be enough for the bank. We check the wording with your chosen bank before the power of attorney is signed.

For the full sequence from documents to tax office registration, see our company formation guide for Chinese investors.

After the account is open

Use the company account for capital payments, taxes, salaries and supplier payments, and keep company and personal money apart. This keeps bookkeeping and tax returns simpler.

The bank’s beneficial owner check is separate from the notification to the tax administration. A new company, and any later change in its beneficial owners, must be notified within one month: see beneficial ownership filing.

How it works

  1. 01

    Document check

You choose the bank. We review the company's registration documents, the shareholder chain and who will sign for the account.

  2. 02

    Bank file

We prepare the ownership chart and the company profile, have the company stamp made and arrange translations of foreign documents where needed.

  3. 03

    Application

We contact your chosen bank's corporate branch, confirm its document list and whether it also wants to see the signatory in person, and sign the application documents under your power of attorney.

  4. 04

    Compliance review

The bank checks identity, ownership and source of funds. We answer its follow-up questions together with you. Approval is the bank's decision.

  5. 05

    Account opened

Once the bank approves, it activates the account and online banking. We record the account in your bookkeeping.

Frequently asked questions

Which bank should we choose?

The choice is yours, and we work with the bank you choose. For China-headquartered companies we recommend ICBC Turkey (ICBC Turkey Bank A.Ş.). Whichever bank you choose, it makes its own decision after its compliance review.

How many days does it take to open the account?

We do not promise a number of days. Turkish law sets no deadline for opening a corporate account, and each bank runs its own compliance review. A complete file and quick answers to follow-up questions help; the decision and its timing stay with the bank.

Does someone have to come to Türkiye?

Not to sign the application: we sign the bank documents under your power of attorney and start the process. The bank still decides how it identifies the company's authorised signatory and may ask to see the signatory in person, so we check this with your chosen bank before the appointment. A power of attorney signed in mainland China or Hong Kong needs an apostille there, then a sworn translation and notarisation in Türkiye.

Can a bank refuse even after the company is registered?

Yes. Typical reasons are unclear beneficial ownership, questions about the source of funds, a complex foreign shareholding structure, problems with the signatory's documents, or the bank's internal compliance policy. Approval is always the bank's decision. If a bank declines, we go through the reason with you and agree the next step; an application to a second bank is not included in the fee.

What will the bank ask about our parent company in China or Hong Kong?

Banks must identify the beneficial owners under Turkish anti-money-laundering rules. Expect to show the parent company's registration documents and the chain of ownership up to the individuals who ultimately own or control it. Official documents from mainland China and Hong Kong can be apostilled instead of legalised at a consulate; a bank may still set its own format requirements.

Do we need the account before the company is formed?

It depends on the company type. A joint-stock company (A.Ş.) pays at least 25% of its cash capital into a special bank account before registration, and the money is released after registration. A limited company (Ltd. Şti.) has no deposit requirement before registration and pays its capital within 24 months after registration. Each foreign shareholder and board member needs a Turkish tax number for the capital account (see our tax number (ITIN) service).

Is the bank account application included in the Basic or Professional package?

No. It is an add-on of USD 1,500 for clients of either package and for companies without a package. The fee includes having the company stamp (kaşe) made. An application to a second bank, if the first one declines, is not included.
